Swirling Around
People often ask “What do you know”? On Council you can sometimes know far more than you even want to. Fact is stranger than fiction so it is said.
There are various things swirling through my mind at the moment:
- how is our Acting GM going? It will take a while to settle in. A 8 week trial is not long enough.
- Mural Fest seems to follow a similar trend. Desperate need for volunteers in the lead up then a hugely successful event. Many think it is great but don’t offer any help.
- What implications will the new minority government have for Kentish? Will Tim Morris be the next Local Government minister? If so what implications will that have for us?
- We need to make sure we keep residents in the loop about the murals. People voted strongly to see the murals removed from the planning scheme. This will sit with the Tasmanian Planning Commission. See what they think.
- We need to start the budget process soon. Keep rates down around Local Government Index levels. Cut internal costs to achieve this.
- Thinking about the implications of dropping elected member positions from 9 to 8.
- Want to get a solution to ongoing problems at O’Neills Creek camping area and nearby caravan park. Something we can all live with.
- Annoyed that water and sewerage charges in Kentish are much higher than neighbouring municipalities. Not fair and needs to be changed.
Kentish is a small municipality but still complex. Lots to think about. Usually enjoy my role though.
