A massive redwood has been cut down in King George Park. The tree was over 30 metres tall.

It came down because it was rotting and cracks were appearing. A dangerous tree that we would rather control where it falls.

Any decent wood will be salvaged.

25 Years of Murals

The introduction of murals has brought dramatic changes to Sheffield and surrounds.

Murals have brought tourists and wealth which has led to shop expansions. The town is now busy.

Last night the 25th anniversary of their introduction was celebrated.

A composite mural of 25 panels painted by 25 artists was unveiled.

Justin Bale was MC and did a fine job.

Rowing Tasmania New Gymnasium Opening

At around $650,000 to build and opened officially today.

This great facility has recently been built at Lake Barrington. It is more than a gym. It has a canteen and verandah area to sit back and relax on. It is a social place and a focal point. It is an impressive development for the rowing course.

For many local residents the lake is out of sight out of mind. Makes me wonder why Sheffield school doesn’t have a rowing club. There must be a good reason??

Do you support rolling the 3 water and sewerage corporations into one ? This would mean no more Cradle Mountain Water.

I want to know why as well.

Railton Streetscape

The footpaths and curb and channel are now complete. Now the road needs a new seal. It is a big job given the width of the road pavement.

I have been told October 26 for the seal. I hope the finished product is to the liking of most.

Brian Inder finished up at Council this week.

It is no secret that he had an agenda to get a Cable Car on the table in the community for discussion. Mission was accomplished.

I wish him well. Brian is no ordinary run of the mill person. His lollies will also be missed.

Tandara AGM

I have said it before I know. Tandara Lodge is an impressive organisation. When I am old I hope there is a place for me here.

Paul Crantock is the CEO. He is one reason the place runs so well.

Tandara cares for the elderly in our community. Popular culture worships youth.

It was a packed house tonight for the AGM. There was an election for board members with Maggie Parker and Bruce Fullerton elected.

As a councillor I sit on the board.

Standing for Councillor we have 9 candidates to fill 5 positions. Those in bold are current councillors:

For Mayor there is one candidate Don Thwaites. Assuming he is elected as a councillor he will be the Mayor.

For Deputy Mayor there is myself and Annie Willock standing for election.

Voting is postal and you will get a couple of weeks to return your voting preferences.
