Elected Already and Not Happy

September 30th, 2009

You won’t get to consider me for election as a Councillor. I am already elected without anyone voting for me. How?
There were four positions to fill and only four people nominated. So I am elected by default. Makes me feel very flat. I wanted to be voted in or out on merit. This is not [...]

Solar Panels

September 27th, 2009

We had a 1kw solar panel system installed yesterday. They got here at 7:30am. Got me out of bed! The system was installed in about 2 hours. I was impressed. Now the wait. I was told that it may be up to 8 weeks before Hydro come and install our new meter. Talk about an anti-climax.

Tandara Annual General Meeting

September 27th, 2009

Being a board member of Tandara is a highlight of being a Councillor. An impressive organisation. Residents are treated with respect and dignity.
Tandara had their AGM this week. The Chairman Peter Braid gave a good summary of the year that has been. Have a read of his notes here.

Stand for Council

September 25th, 2009

Nominations are currently being called for Local Government elections.
In Kentish there are four places up for grabs. Do you think Council should be doing a better job? Well consider standing.
I found the last election a very nervous affair for me. Time seemed to drag. I didn’t think I would get elected. This made [...]

Garbage Stuff Up

September 18th, 2009

Got a letter in the mail from Veolia saying that rubbish collection days will change for different areas. Very confusing to know which area would be serviced which days. It had a Council letterhead on it which should not have been so considering council did not send the letter.
Surely they could given a simple map [...]

A Different Future

September 16th, 2009

Peak Oil means the time when oil production reaches it peak and slowly but surely starts to decline. People fight over the actual time when this will happen. Indeed some say it has already happened. I do not know. What I do know is that when oil production does start to decrease we are going [...]

More rain

September 11th, 2009

Friday night and more rain on the roof. Thankfully we haven’t lost any bridges thus far. Kellys Cage bridge was touch and go. Logs pushed up against it during the recent flooding. Lose one of these bridges and we could be up for hundreds of thousands.
Kentish has had a few landslips and some potholing [...]
